About the National President


Mr. Cleophus M. Lewis, MSOTR/L of Atlanta, Georgia is the National President of The Academia Society, Incorporated, the oldest non-Greek lettered, multicultural society established by African American college-trained men.  Mr. Lewis will lead the illustrious organization through the 2020-2022 National Programmatic Thrust, “All Aboard the ACADEMIA EXPRESS: on the T.R.A.I.N. of Excellence towards a Global I.M.P.A.C.T.”

A native of Uniontown, Alabama, and a three time graduate of Tuskegee University.  Scholar Lewis earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology/Pre-Medicine, Master of Science Degree in Nutritional Science, and another Master of Science Degree in Occupational Therapy.  He is registered and certified by the National Board of Certified Occupational Therapy and the American Occupational Therapy Association. Scholar Lewis is licensed by the State of Alabama Board of Occupational Therapy and the State of Georgia Board of Occupational Therapy. Scholar Lewis has completed several certifications for Geriatrics Rehabilitation,

Professionally, he is a Senior Supervisory Occupational Therapist and assistant Rehabilitation Program Manager (RPM) for Sandy Springs Health and Rehabilitation Center (SSHRC) under SAVA Senior Care healthcare system.  He has clinical experience in the acute care, inpatient rehabilitation, home health and outpatient settings, and is currently part of the SSHRC Dementia Life Engagement program and the Integrative Cognitive Rehabilitation Program (ICRP).   As the assistant RPM and supervising OTR,  he assists with developing and coordinating education for newly hired therapists, providing continued education opportunities for occupational therapy staff and directly supervises two certified occupational therapist assistants.  Areas of special interest include brain injury, spinal cord injury, cognitive rehabilitation, upper extremity prosthetics, stroke rehabilitation/recovery, elderly aging in place specialist, dementia education and community reintegration programs. He genuinely believes that rehabilitation through occupational therapy brings the quality of life back to each of his patients’ lives. Witnessing the rewarding experience of reeducating and educating patients back to their full independence has become one of the joys of his life.

Mr. Lewis was initiated into the society through the Tuskegee, Alabama Metro-Intermediate Chapter in April 2006.  A committed Life Member of The Academia Society, Incorporated with several years of leadership, academic excellence, and service, Mr. Lewis has served in several capacities, including National First Vice President, South Eastern Regional Director, and National Parliamentarian. He served also served as the First President of the Montgomery, Alabama Metro-Professional Alumni Chapter.
